چکیده

In this paper a novel spatial channel model is developed to provide insight into spatial aspects of multiple antenna communication systems. In particular, we uncouple the antenna configuration and scattering environment effects on the channel matrix, allowing for arbitrary antenna arrays to be studied in a variety environments. We use the underlying physics of free space wave propagation to model the channel in scatterer free regions around the transmitter and the receiver, and represent the rest of the complex scattering media by a parametric model. Using modal expansions of plane waves, we decompose the channel matrix into a product of constant and random matrices, where the constant portion shows the effects of the physical configuration of antenna elements. Using this decomposition we show that there is a limit to the intrinsic degrees of freedom of a multi-antenna system which depends only on the size of the regions containing the antennas, and is independent of the antennas contained within. We finish by briefly discussing some potential applications of the model.

Chapter 12 SPATIAL CHARACTERIZATION OF MULTIPLE ANTENNA CHANNELS

In this chapter we present a realistic new model for wireless multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO) channels which is more general than previous models. A novel spatial decomposition of the channel is developed to provide insights into the spatial aspects of multiple antenna communication systems. By exploiting the underlying physics of free-space wave propagation we characterize the fundamental...

Performance Analysis of Sparse MIMO-OFDM Channel Estimation Using Spatial and Temporal Correlations

To improve accuracy of the channel, this paper proposes a parametric sparse multiple input multiple output (MIMO)-OFDM channel estimation scheme based on the finite rate of innovation (FRI) theory, whereby super-resolution estimates of path delays with arbitrary values can be achieved. For outdoor communication scenarios, where wireless channels are sparse in nature, path delays of different tr...

Capacity Optimized For Multicarrier OFDM-MIMO Antenna Systems

Motivated by MIMO broad-band fading channel model, in this section we deals with the capacity behaviour of wireless MIMO and OFDM based spatial multiplexing systems in broad-band fading environments for the case where the channel is unknown at the transmitter and perfectly known at the receiver. This influence the propagation and system parameters on ergodic capacity, we furthermore demonstrate...

Space-Time Water-Filling for Composite MIMO Fading Channels

We analyze the ergodic capacity and channel outage probability for a composite MIMO channel model, which includes both fast fading and shadowing effects. The ergodic capacity and exact channel outage probability with space-time water-filling can be evaluated through numerical integrations, which can be further simplified by using approximated empirical eigenvalue and maximal eigenvalue distribu...
